You have felt it, that drop in your stomach when the headlines roll in. Wars, disasters, division, systems breaking, leaders failing. You scroll for answers and find only voices as afraid as you are. At night you lie awake wondering the quiet questions no one says out loud: Is it all coming apart? Is anything safe anymore?
That weight you are carrying, the anxiety you keep trying to pray away, was never yours to carry. You were not designed to hold the weight of the world. That has always been God’s job. Here is the perspective that changes how you see everything on your screen.
Nothing Has Surprised God
Not one headline, not one crisis, not one moment of chaos has caught God off guard. He is not pacing. He is not scrambling for a plan. He is on his throne, as he has always been, and he will still be there long after every empire that frightens you has turned to dust. Before the world drew its first breath, he already knew every storm and every shaking season it would hold, including this one.
Why God Allows the Shaking
Here is the part few sermons say plainly: the things shaking right now were always meant to shake. God allows shaking, not because he has lost control, but because shaking reveals what is real.
“‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ … so that what cannot be shaken may remain.” (Hebrews 12:26-27)
God is not destroying; he is revealing. He is stripping away everything that was never built to last so you can see clearly what stands forever. And you, anchored in Christ, are something that will stand forever.
Held by Arms That Never Crack
You are not held because the world is safe, the economy is stable, or governments have answers. None of those were ever meant to be your shelter. You are held because God is holding you.
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27)
That is not poetry; it is architecture. There is a structure beneath your life that has never cracked and never will. And through Isaiah, God gets even more specific:
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Uphold means physically held in place. Not watched from a distance. Held, right now, by the same hands that hold galaxies together.
Stop Staring at the Waves
There is a harder truth here too. The problem is not only that the world is shaking; it is that you have been staring at the shaking. Your mornings go to the news, your evenings to the arguments, your peace to the predictions of people who do not know what God knows. Peter walked on water until his eyes moved from Jesus to the waves, and then he began to sink. The invitation is not to ignore the world, but to stop letting it be louder than God’s voice.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” (Psalm 46:1-2)
The world will keep shaking. That is what temporary things do. But you are not temporary, and nothing in all creation can shake you out of his hands.
Watch: The world is shaking but you are held.
