You’re exhausted, and it is not because you’re weak or because you’ve given up. You’re exhausted because you have been carrying things that were never meant to stay on your shoulders. The pressure. The fear. The uncertainty. The constant need to have everything figured out. Some days it feels like everything depends on you, and one wrong decision could unravel it all.
So your mind keeps working even when your body is resting: searching, planning, worrying, trying to stay ahead of problems that may never happen. But the harder you try to carry everything, the heavier life becomes. Worry was never meant to carry you. It was meant to be surrendered.
The Lie That Peace Comes From Control
Somewhere along the journey, many of us started believing a lie: that peace comes from control. If we think hard enough, plan carefully enough, and worry long enough, we can somehow protect ourselves from pain. But be honest with yourself. Has that actually worked? Has anxiety brought peace? Has overthinking brought rest? Has fear solved a single problem that keeps you awake at night?
Most of the time it only leaves you more exhausted. God never asked you to carry tomorrow. He never asked you to solve every problem tonight, or to have every answer before taking the next step. So many hearts feel tired not because life is impossible, but because they are carrying burdens that belong to God.
Nothing About Your Situation Surprises God
The future you’re afraid of? God already sees it. The need you keep turning over in your mind? He already knows it. Before you ever whispered a prayer, He already knew what your heart needed. The God who created the stars knows exactly what is keeping you awake tonight, and He is not distant from it. He is closer than you realize.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”1 Peter 5:7
The problem is not that God has abandoned you. The problem is that fear has convinced you everything depends on you. Fear says, carry it yourself. Faith says, give it to God. Fear says, control everything. Faith says, trust the One who already sees tomorrow.
Why Surrender Is Hard, and Why It Is Where Peace Begins
Trust is hard because trust means surrender. It means admitting you cannot control everything. It means accepting that some answers will not come immediately, and releasing the need to know exactly how everything will work out. But that is where peace begins. Not when every problem disappears, but when you stop trying to be God.
You were never designed to carry that role. You were designed to walk with Him, to trust Him, to depend on Him. And maybe that is exactly what this season is teaching you: not how to become stronger on your own, but how to rely on God more deeply. Sometimes the pressure you hate the most becomes the very thing that drives you closer to Him. When everything is easy, it’s easy to trust yourself. When life becomes uncertain, you discover where your hope really rests.
Let Go of the Burden, Not the Responsibility
God may be inviting you today to let go. Not of responsibility, not of wisdom, not of effort, but of the burden: the burden of trying to control everything, of carrying tomorrow, of believing everything depends on you. It doesn’t. God is still your provider, still your guide, still your refuge, still your Father. He has not forgotten you, and He is not scrambling to figure out your future. He already knows the way forward.
That doesn’t mean every answer will come today. But it means you can breathe. Maybe tonight your prayer is simple: “God, I’m tired. I’ve been carrying too much. I trust You with the things I cannot control.” That prayer matters, because peace begins where surrender begins. And the beautiful truth is this: you were never meant to carry this weight alone. God has been carrying you all along.
