Your feelings are lying to you. Not all the time, but enough of the time that if you build your life on them, you will eventually get lost. Some days you feel close to God; other days you don’t. Some days faith feels strong; other days it feels fragile, and you find yourself wondering if God is even listening.
Maybe that is exactly where you are right now. Life feels heavy, prayers feel unanswered, heaven feels quiet. And your emotions are quietly building a case that God has left. Before you believe them, here is what Scripture says about feelings, faith, and the God who does not change.
Feelings Are Honest Indicators, Terrible Guides
Many believers judge God’s presence by their emotions. If they feel peace, God must be near; if they feel anxious, he must be distant. But feelings are honest indicators of what you are experiencing and unreliable guides for where you are going. Think back: there were days fear convinced you the future would fall apart, days anxiety insisted things would never get better. Those feelings felt real, yet here you are. They were not telling the whole truth.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.”2 Corinthians 5:7
Scripture calls you to walk by faith precisely because feelings change, circumstances change, and seasons change, but God does not.
God’s Silence Is Not God’s Absence
Just because God feels distant does not mean he is distant. Just because heaven feels quiet does not mean God is absent. Just because you are struggling does not mean you have been abandoned. Some of the strongest moments of faith happen when nothing feels certain: when you keep praying though the answer hasn’t come, keep trusting though the outcome is unclear, keep moving forward though your emotions are telling you to quit.
That is not certainty. That is trust. Anyone can trust God when life makes sense. Faith becomes real when life doesn’t.
Faith Is Honesty Mixed With Trust
Walking by faith does not mean pretending everything is okay. Faith is not denial. Faith is honesty mixed with trust. It sounds like this: “God, I don’t understand this. God, I’m scared. God, I’m tired. But I still believe you’re here.” Step by step, day by day, not because you can see the whole path, but because you trust the One leading you.
Perhaps the season you are in is teaching you to depend on God’s promises more than your emotions. If your faith depends on feelings, it will always be unstable, because emotions rise and fall by the hour. Faith anchored in God’s character holds, because his faithfulness does not change when your mood does.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”Hebrews 13:8
What Faith Says When Feelings Can’t
Faith says God is still working even when I can’t see it. Faith says God is still present even when I can’t feel it. Faith says God is still faithful even when life feels uncertain. And one day you will look back on this season, the waiting, the questions, the moments you thought you couldn’t keep going, and realize God was there the entire time: in every prayer, in every tear, carrying you when you didn’t even know it.
Don’t let your feelings become your foundation. Feelings change. God doesn’t. Walk by faith, not because the road is easy, but because the One leading you has never failed, and he is not going to start now.
