Small Obedience

Micah 6:8

It is easier to want a calling than to do a chore.

We would rather be given a mission, something with scope and a story attached. Instead the actual instruction is often smaller and more annoying: apologize first, make the call you have been avoiding, tell the truth in a meeting where a small lie would be easier.

Micah’s summary is famously plain. Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly. No strategy, no platform, no scale. Three habits, repeated.

The reason we resist this is that small obedience does not feel significant, and we badly want to feel significant. But faithfulness compounds. Nobody becomes a person of integrity in a single decision; they become one in about four thousand of them.

Do the next small right thing today. That is the assignment. It has always been the assignment.
