When No One Is There, Jesus Is: Letting Go of Worry

Christian Living 4 min read

You have been holding it in for far too long. Carrying the burden like it is yours to fix, worrying yourself to sleep, replaying conversations, clenching your fists around something that was never meant for you to carry alone. And deep down, you know it. You are tired. Not just physically, but soul tired.

You are exhausted from trying to be strong all the time, from acting like everything is fine while your heart unravels in silence. So let this be your sign: it is time to learn how to give your worries to God, not just the comfortable parts, but all of it. The fear, the what ifs, the need to control, the parts of the story that still don’t make sense.

What “Cast Your Cares” Really Means

Scripture does not describe surrender as a polite handoff.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”, Psalm 55:22

That word cast means to throw forcefully. Not to hand over politely, not to negotiate terms, but to hurl your burden at His feet and say, “God, I can’t do this anymore. I need you to take it from me.” We serve a God who does not merely hear your cries; He collects every tear. You weren’t created to carry the weight of the world. That is God’s job. The longer you hold on, the more you feel like you are drowning in a storm He is already prepared to calm.

Giving It to God Is Not Giving Up

Many of us resist surrender because it feels like quitting. It isn’t. Giving it to God doesn’t mean giving up; it means giving in. It means finally acknowledging that your strength has limits but His doesn’t. It means stepping back and letting the One who sees the full picture take the lead.

And yes, letting go can be scary, because sometimes the pain becomes familiar. A known burden can feel safer than an unknown freedom. But you have to believe that what’s ahead of you is better than what you’re afraid to release. Surrender is not weakness. It is wisdom. It is bravery. It is trust.

A Simple Prayer of Release

Sometimes the burden only leaves when we name it out loud. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and speak it if you need to: “God, I give this to you. I give you my anxiety, my stress, my plans, my heartbreak, my disappointment, my questions, my future. I give you everything I’ve been trying to fix on my own. I lay it down at your feet. Help me to trust that you’re already working it out for good, even if I can’t see it yet.”

Notice what that prayer does not require. It does not require you to have it all together. He’s not asking for a finished, composed version of you. He’s asking you to let Him in, exactly as you are, mid storm.

Leave It There and Watch for Peace

The hardest part of casting a care is not picking it back up an hour later. Surrender is rarely a single moment; it is a practice, a daily throwing down of what worry keeps handing back. Each time the weight returns, return it to Him. Each time your mind starts replaying and rehearsing, remember whose job the outcome is.

This is your sign. Release it. Leave it with Him. And watch how He brings peace to places you thought would never be still again. You don’t have to carry this anymore, and you were never supposed to.
