This is possibly the most misapplied verse in the New Testament. It appears on athletic gear and motivational posters as a promise of unlimited capability.
Read the sentence before it. Paul is talking about having learned to be content in plenty and in want, well fed and hungry. The all things is not every ambition you can imagine. It is every circumstance you might find yourself in.
That is a far better promise, honestly. Unlimited capability would only be useful if you could control your circumstances. Sufficient strength for any circumstance is useful precisely because you cannot.
And notice: learned. Contentment was not a temperament Paul was born with. It was a skill acquired over time, mostly in conditions nobody would choose.
Which means if you are not content yet, you are not disqualified. You are in the middle of the curriculum.
