The One Thing That Does Not Change

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Ten words, and it is the shortest sentence in the letter doing the most work.

Hebrews was written to people watching everything familiar come apart. Their worship, their community, their sense of where they belonged, all of it destabilizing at once. Into that, this.

The claim is not that circumstances will hold. It is explicitly the opposite. Circumstances are assumed to be moving, which is why a fixed point is worth naming.

Yesterday matters in the list. Whatever you knew of Him in a better season is still accurate now. The change you have felt since then was not in Him.

And forever closes the door on the quiet fear that He might yet become something else, that patience might run out, that there is a version of Him you have not met who is colder.

There is not. The One who met you at the beginning is the One who is here.
