Standing Firm

Ephesians 6:11

Paul’s armor passage is often read as preparation for attack. But read the stated purpose: that you may be able to stand.

Not conquer. Not advance. Stand.

There are seasons where holding your ground is the entire victory. Where faithfulness looks like nothing more dramatic than still being here, still believing, still not having walked away, after a year that gave you every reason to.

Notice too that the pieces are almost all defensive, and that none of them cover the back. The armor assumes you are facing the thing.

If your spiritual life right now consists of getting up, praying badly, and refusing to quit, you are not failing. You are doing exactly what the passage describes.

Standing is not a lesser outcome. On some days it is the whole assignment.
