His Thoughts Are Not Your Thoughts

Isaiah 55:8-9

These words arrive at funerals and after bad news, meaning roughly, stop asking. Nobody intends harm by it. It still lands like a door closing.

But look where it sits. A few lines earlier the invitation is to come, to seek, to return, with the promise that God will abundantly pardon. The gap between His thinking and ours is offered as the reason mercy is available at all.

Our arithmetic would not forgive on those terms. We would calculate what was owed. His thoughts are higher, and what He does with the height is pardon.

So the verse is not a wall. It is an explanation of why the door is open wider than you would have built it.

That reframes the hard seasons too. The distance is real, and it is not indifference. It runs the other way from what we fear, toward mercy rather than away from it.
