You have prayed for healing more times than you can count. Not once, but for months, maybe years. You have said the verse out loud. You have had people lay hands on you. You have believed as hard as you know how to believe.
And your body still hurts. The diagnosis is still there. The appointment you are dreading is still on the calendar.

The Teaching That Added Shame to the Pain
You scroll past someone else’s healing testimony and part of you is genuinely glad for them. Another part quietly asks what you are doing wrong.
Somewhere along the way you absorbed an idea, possibly without anyone stating it outright: that enough faith produces healing. Which means if the healing has not come, your faith must have been the thing that failed.
That is not what Scripture teaches, and it has been quietly crushing you. It stacks spiritual shame on top of physical suffering, so now you are sick and suspecting it is your fault. That was never a weight you were asked to carry.
Paul Asked Three Times and Kept the Thorn
Paul performed healings. He saw the miraculous repeatedly. He also had something he called a thorn in the flesh.
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.”2 Corinthians 12:8
The answer he received was not removal.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.”2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul kept the thorn, and he described that as an answered prayer rather than a refused one.
He Also Left a Friend Sick
There is a quieter verse people rarely preach, tucked into a list of travel notes at the end of a letter.
“Erastus has remained at Corinth, and Trophimus I left sick in Miletus.”2 Timothy 4:20
Paul, the man God used for astonishing healings, left a faithful coworker still sick and moved on.
If healing reliably followed sufficient faith, that sentence could not exist. You are not the exception to a rule that guarantees healing. You are in the company of some of the most faithful people who ever lived.
What Healing Is Allowed to Mean
Sometimes healing is physical restoration. That is real, it happens, and it is worth continuing to ask for. Do not let anyone talk you out of asking.
But sometimes what arrives first is this, in a body that is still sick:
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:7
Sometimes it is the strength to face another treatment without losing who you are. And sometimes the healing you are asking for is genuinely coming, just not yet.
“‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”Revelation 21:4
That is not a consolation prize offered because the real answer did not arrive. It is the final word on the subject.
Where This Leaves You
Keep bringing the honest prayer rather than the performed one. God, I still want to be healed, and I do not understand why this has not changed. Lament is biblical prayer, and the psalmists wrote entire chapters of it. If you have moved past sadness into something closer to anger, bring that too.
Keep seeking wise medical care alongside prayer. These were never competitors.
“Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.”James 5:14
Then find one or two people who can sit with you without rushing to fix or explain it. You do not need someone with the perfect verse, you need someone who will stay in the room. If someone is carrying you through this, the cost to them is real too.
Unhealed does not mean unheard, and it does not mean unloved. God has never once looked at your illness and read it as a verdict on your faith. If your faith feels thin under all this, that is not the reason either.
May the God whose power is perfected in weakness meet you in the body you actually have, and keep your hope from being wasted.
