Quick to Judge

Luke 6:37

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Three pairs, each one linking what you hand out to what comes back. The symmetry is uncomfortable and it is clearly deliberate.

Judging is attractive because it is cheap. It requires no relationship, no context, and no time. You can form a complete verdict on someone from a single sentence they said, and you never have to test it against anything.

Condemning goes further. Judging assesses an action. Condemning assigns a permanent identity, which is precisely the thing none of us would survive having done to us on our worst day.

Notice that forgive is on the same list, treated as the same kind of act. Withholding judgment and extending forgiveness are two directions of one posture.

It would be worth picking one person you have already filed a verdict on and reopening the case.
