Ask, seek, knock. Three verbs, and in the original they are continuous. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.
That changes the verse considerably. Read as three single actions it sounds like a vending machine, and everyone who has prayed for something over years knows it does not work like that. Read as ongoing habits it becomes a description of a relationship.
Notice too that the three verbs escalate. Asking is words. Seeking involves moving, looking, effort. Knocking is standing at a specific door and staying there. Each one costs more than the last.
This is not about wearing God down until He relents. It is about what sustained asking does to the person doing it. You cannot knock at the same door for a year and remain unchanged by the waiting.
If you have been praying the same prayer for a long time, you have not failed the instruction. You are doing exactly what the verb describes.
